What is a BAL Assessment?
A BAL, or Bushfire Attack Level Assessment, is one of six bands assigned to building in a fire prone area . It determines the methods and materials to which your build needs to meet as defined by AS3959- 2018.
Why do I need a BAL Assessment?
A BAL Assessment is required when building a new home or extending or altering an existing structure in fire prone areas in Western Australia. It will form part of your building application.
Can anyone do a BAL Assessment?
No. A BAL Assessment must be performed by an endorsed BPAD (Bushfire Planning and Design) Accredited Practitioner. We are BPAD Accredited Level 1 Practitioners. You can check if your BAL Assessor is accredited here .
Do you need access to my property to do a BAL Assessment?
Yes. We need to visit your property to do the BAS Assessment.

I work during the week and find it difficult to be there during business hours. Do you work weekends?
We understand the changing nature of todays workforce. To accommodate this we work Saturdays and Sundays to do site inspections. There is no extra charge for this. If you require an inspection on Saturday or Sunday please contact us as soon as possible as these appointments fill up quickly.
How long does it take to get my BAL Assessment?
What information do you require from me?
We will provide your BAL Assessment within three business days of our site inspection. Quite often it will be sooner than this.

What does a BAL Assessment cost?
We have a fixed cost of $500 for a Simplifeed Procedure Method 1 BAL Assessment, however occasionally there are factors that may add to the cost. Please refer to our fact sheet for details.
